The 20-year-old musician was in his BMW 3-Series on Tuesday afternoon in the German city of Magdeburg when the accident happened. He reportedly overtook a line of traffic and drove straight over tram tracks which had been blocked off. His car was then hit by an oncoming tram, skidded into the right lane of traffic and hit two further cars.

Schafer and his two passengers - Katharina Kretzschmar (29), the sister of SCM sport director Stefan Kretzschmar, and Denny E. (29) from Hamburg - were taken by ambulance to hospital, although they were only slightly hurt.

The drummer may still be feeling pain, however, as he is set to be charged with bodily harm due to negligence.

But he shouldn’t let it get him down - he will appear with his Tokio Hotel bandmates at the European Music Awards in Liverpool, where they are up for two gongs.

Hamburg - Tokio Hotel will not have its third album available till early next year, the German hit band’s manager said Sunday, dashing hopes among teenage fans of a release this year. The quartet, fronted by soft-faced 19-year-old singer Bill Kaulitz, has sent teen girls into a frenzy in Europe and is currently touring the United States.

The group won best new artist honours at the MTV Video Music Awards last month, and MTV Latin Awards this month. Manager David Jost said, “There’ll be no album release this year. It looks as if the third album will be out in March or April next year, probably simultaneously round the globe.”He said the band would also release a DVD on December 5 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland that would include footage of Bill Kaulitz in the recording studio making the new album.

Ahead of the MTV Video Music Awards, their supporters discuss the question with vigor, as to which band is actually the more incredible. There is talk of Tokio Hotel, the most successful German rock band, and the Jonas Brothers, currently America’s greatest pop band. At this year’s VMA awards on September 7th in L.A., they came together in the category “Best Pop Video”, further stoking up the discussion from supporters of both bands. And the question on everybody’s lips - does this translate to competition between the two bands themselves? The truth is there is nothing of the sort, quite the opposite. Tokio Hotel (who won the MTV VMA category “Best New Artist”) and Jonas Brothers have one thing in common: while Tokio Hotel are currently superstars in Europe who are successfully capturing great attention and fans across the United States, the superstars from America, Jonas Brothers, have planned to conquer Europe. No wonder the guys had a lot of things to tell each other, when they met shortly before the MTV VMAs in New York. They got along great and shared a lot of experiences - and for sure there will be more, next time they meet each other.

Hey everyone I have add photos from the bands’ Montpellier France performs

Tokio Hotel told MTV that even after a year touring the States and making plenty of public appearances in English all year, the four young Germans say the language barrier is still quite a challenge for them — one they plan to tackle again as they work on their next LP. Bill then go on to saying.

“You know it was really hard to do a set, or even to do interviews in English, because in Europe, we always had a translator with us,” 19-year-old lead singer Bill Kaulitz said. “I think it’s really hard for me … to sing in English, because it’s not my mother tongue. I really wanted it to sound natural [on the album], so it took some time in the studio, and we always wanted to do it this way: first in German, then translate everything into English. The English record is a part of us, and we really wanted to go ahead with that.”
